Diecut/Emboss
Varimatrix 105 CS is Heidelberg's entry-level solution for economical diecutting and embossing. It diecuts and embosses papers of 80 gsm and over, board or solid board up to 1,400 gsm, and corrugated board up to 0.16 inches thick. Metallic effects and multistage/relief embossing can be applied efficiently in a single pass using the hot foil module. The Dymatrix 106 Pro CSB is a high-speed system for demanding applications. It features high-quality diecutting with accurate register, and operator-friendliness for fast, precise, trouble-free makeready. Cuts, embosses, and creases paper in excess of 80 gsm, board up to 2,000 gsm, and corrugated board up to 4 millimeters at speeds to 9,000 sheets an hour. www.us.heidelberg.com
Dies for Increased Efficiency
Wilson Manufacturing vacuum insert dies provide a clean method for waste removal from the web. The dies are designed with interchangeable inserts that pick up the slug from the web and extract it through the journal’s center with assistance from a vacuum attachment. Wilson’s spring plunger dies are designed to prevent waste from building up inside die cavities and provide reliable slug ejection from the web. The spring option offers an alternative to traditional air ejection slug removal. www.wilsonmfg.com
Hinged Shaft Collar
The Staff-Lok™ Hinged Shaft Collar by Stafford Manufacturing Corp. is a new lever-actuated, hinged shaft collar for non-rotary applications. It is adjusted and locked in place by just lifting the conformal cam lever; moving it along a shaft, tube, or pipe; and then retightening by hand. Available in 1/2˝ to 4˝ I.D. sizes, the collar is machined from steel and has a smooth bore. www.staffordmfg.com
Pull Rolls
Geared Pull Rolls from PFE are designed to pull scrap web material or trim into scrap bins or recycling containers. These rolls are often used with heavier or more rigid materials that cannot be adequately handled by conventional air conveyance systems. Geared pull rolls are steel construction and precision balanced for the required speeds. www.pferolls.com
Rotary/Semi-Rotary
SOHN Manufacturing offers two diecutting systems for finishing labels—the AR Series which is fully rotary and the Wizard which is semi-rotary. The AR unit uses rotary dies and existing rotary tooling and can be customized to fit converters' requirements. The Wizard is a semi-rotary unit that has a fixed magnetic cylinder so only the flexible die needs to be changed. www.sohnmanufacturing.com
Magnetic Cylinders
Excellent cutting results require an accurate flexible die along with a top-quality magnetic carrier. Wink US uses the latest high-tech equipment to manufacture high-quality magnetic cylinders in all standard dimensions, as well as special formats. Its magnetic cylinders are designed for maximum precision, optimum adhesion, and high durability, and are available in diameters up to 11.8 inches and cylinder widths up to 78 inches. www.wink-us.com
Rebuilds for Medesa Tooling
Schober USA has entered into an agreement with Heinz-Dieter Mendel GmbH to recondition tooling used in Medesa brand products for North American customers. This new service agreement covers all models and types of Medesa products for the cutting, perforating, creasing, and scoring of films and foils, including the Webmaster and X-Cut series. www.schoberusa.com
Cutting Small Cavities
RotoMetrics' new Pin Eject Die allows rotary converters the ability to successfully cut small cavities (down to 0.060˝) without the use of air eject, spring loaded inserts, or vacuum tools in metal-to-metal and pressure-sensitive applications. The cavity of the die contains a pin that compresses into the die core when the cut is made and expands back into the cavity upon release from the anvil surface. This spring-back feature ejects the part from the cavity, keeping it clean for the next revolution. www.rotometrics.com
Grinding/Plating
Menges Roller Company has expanded its service offerings to include Precision Cylindrical Grinding and Chrome Plating. These two services go hand-in-hand. Chrome-plated rollers (after miles of web have passed over them) often see the chrome get dull or chipped. Menges Roller will grind off the old chrome and apply new chrome plating to the roller, delivering a like-new finish. www.mengesroller.com
Online Die Ordering
Bunting Magnetics Co. has implemented an online flex die ordering system enabling label printers and other users of flexible dies to quickly and effortlessly place flex die orders. The ordering system—which can be accessed via the Bunting Web site or directly at www.myflexdies.com—is available for ordering both standard and custom dies. By using this system, customers can get instant quotes, and effortlessly convert them to orders. Once equipment specifications and company information is entered, the Bunting Magnetics flex die ordering system remembers all order details for use on future orders. www.buntingmagnetics.com
Dancer Control
The DTI-3400 dancer controller/tension indicator from The Montalvo Corporation offers integrated load cell feedback and set point control. It will simultaneously process signals from a pair of load cells and the dancer position sensor and combines the storage and shock absorption capabilities of a dancer system, while accurately indicating web tension. Users can also add a second I/P converter, enter a tension set point, and the controller will adjust the dancer load to provide the desired level of tension. Progressive PID circuitry regulates the output to the unwind brake and maintains the position of the dancer arm from full roll down to the core. www.montalvo.com
Flexible Dies
Nanotec flexible dies have an extremely thin micro coating with a hardness of more than 80 HRC. Reduced friction and excellent resistance to wear enables maximum running performance with a consistently sharp cutting edge. An additional advantage is the reduced adherence of adhesive and ink to the cutting blades. www.kocher-beck.com
