Avery Dennison's New Digital Facestock
MENTOR, Ohio—Avery Dennison Label and Packaging Materials has launched a new HP Indigo-certified digital print-ready version of its high-performance Global MDO film. Available in clear and white options, the new top-coated digital film laminate is part of Avery Dennison's machine direction orientated (MDO) film product line. The films feature a balance of properties that eliminate darts and wrinkles in high-speed dispensing environments and challenging packaging formats.
"The Global MDO digital facestock enables label and packaging brand owners to fully leverage their SKU strategies by taking advantage of the speed-to-market capabilities of HP Indigo digital printing. The expansive portfolio offers the ultimate flexibility in driving shelf impact with personalization and customization, late-stage differentiation, and private label flexibility," said David Collins, director, prime papers, Avery Dennison Labels and Packaging Materials.
Global MDO digital facestock can provide enhanced productivity for label printers and brand owners due to the strength of the 50-micron MDO film and 23-micron polyester liner that minimizes line shutdowns due to web breaks. In addition, the complete construction is approximately 50 percent thinner than standard product consisting of PE85 film on glassine liner, allowing almost twice as many labels per roll.
Lean Label Production
FOSTER CITY, Calif.—EFI™ has completed deployments of the Jetrion® 4900 UV Inkjet industrial presses for lean label production at Consolidated Products, Inc. (CPI) of Knoxville, Tenn. and Repacorp, Inc. of Tipp City, Ohio. The EFI Jetrion 4900 combines digital printing and digital finishing in a single system.
CPI provides pressure-sensitive labels and tags, offering digital printing, dome labels, high-speed laser diecutting, and RFID. According to Kirk Icuss, president of CPI, "We first acquired the Jetrion 4830, and then partnered with EFI as an early installation site for the 4900 with the EFI Fiery® RIP to unify the color for both machines. The Jetrion presses give us the ability to respond to customer needs in a short time frame without the added cost of plates or dies, and we deliver that increased value to our customers."
Repacorp is a full-service print provider with four manufacturing plants. VP Tony Heinl says: "As a company, we constantly look at what we can do to help our distributors increase sales. The answer was definitely adding EFI Jetrion presses to compete in short-run process printing. We estimate the short-run label market at about $800 million. The addition of our three Jetrion presses immediately made us a force in that market."
