Digital Label Paper
STEVENS POINT, Wis.—NewPage Corporation introduced its new HP Indigo-certified OptiPrime™ Digital label paper at Dscoop5, the annual conference for Hewlett-Packard (HP) users.
OptiPrime Digital, designed for printing high-quality pressure-sensitive labels, is pre-optimized, allowing converters to skip traditional digital print surface pretreatments that can be expensive and time-consuming. OptiPrime Digital has undergone testing by HP and the Rochester Institute of Technology School of Print Media.
"As demand and new applications grow for digitally printed pressure-sensitive labels, our customers are looking for ways to be more productive," says David Diekelman, executive director of sales and business development for specialty papers. "OptiPrime Digital allows converters to focus equipment time on higher return projects, and deliver the exceptional digital label results their customers expect."
OptiPrime Digital label paper features a smooth semi-gloss finish, premium brightness, and high strength for diecutting and matrix stripping during pressure-sensitive label converting. It is available as a NewPage tri-certified grade, indicating chain-of-custody certification by three third-party organizations, including the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).
Digital Printing System
RONKONKOMA, N.Y.—Griffin-Rutgers Company, Inc., the North American representative for Heidelberg's Linoprint Digital Printing Systems, introduced DriveLine B, a digital printing system for variable, multi-color, high-resolution, complete printing of labels (paper or coated) and web stocks (paper, aluminum, or plastics). DriveLine B also adds variable information to substrates "just-in-time," and readily handles short runs, long runs, language changes, serialization, linear and 2D codes, and security and anti-counterfeiting measures.
DriveLine B is constructed as a compact stand-alone system, which combines the precision of a professional printing system with the flexibility of digital printing. DriveLine B prints with high-resolution drop-on-demand inkjet technology on a range of flexible materials.
The printing system can be customized for the substrate used, so with DriveLine B, it is possible to print substrates which are flexible, elastic, or are highly sensitive to pressure or temperature exposure. The material is guided around the cooled handling drum and underneath the print heads, which eliminates stretching while printing. Driveline B is available as an offline-version or integrated into a packaging line.
Coatings for EFI Jetrion Press
FENTON, Mo.—Masterpiece Graphix (MGX) has introduced both a matte and a gloss substrate coating for the EFI Jetrion UV inkjet label press, allowing Jetrion users to have their preferred substrate digitally optimized with either coating option. These coatings have been successfully tested on paper and film materials.
The MGX glossy substrate coating complements the glossy characteristics of Jetrion's ink to provide a complete, high-gloss label finish. The matte substrate coating is useful for highlighting Jetrion's glossy ink, making the printed ink stand out on the matte material.
MGX partnered with EFI Jetrion to coat materials for the Jetrion 4000 and 4830 industrial inkjet roll presses, coating substrates for these presses as an EFI certified treatment center.
Currently Masterpiece Graphix offers an EFI-certified material for the Jetrion: 54# Semigloss/Rubber-Based/40# (R1338). As part of the EFI and MGX partnership, every new Jetrion press purchase ships with a free roll of this material. pP
