Diamond Packaging Wins Four Awards in 2022 Neographics Power of Print Competition
Diamond Packaging announced that it won four awards in the 2022 Neographics Power of Print Competition, the largest and oldest regional printing competition in the nation. Awards were presented during the Graphic Arts Association’s 2022 Neographics Exhibition and Award Ceremony held on Oct. 6, 2022, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The competition celebrates the graphic arts industry and the “Power of Print.” Entries are judged by a panel of industry experts on several criteria including overall design, prepress preparation, printing, and finishing.
Diamond won a Best of Category award in the “Packaging - Cartonboard” category for Parlux Fragrances' Eilish by Billie Eilish packaging. Eilish is the debut fragrance from Billie Eilish, whose inspiration for the project was "an appreciation for the human body." Parlux partnered with Diamond to create packaging that sustainably captures the essence of the musical artist.
The folding cartons were converted utilizing FSC-certified BillerudKorsnäs CrownBoard Prestige paperboard and offset printed with four color process, UV PMS brown, and UV gold inks, in-line with DiamondTouch soft touch coating, UV matte coating, and UV gloss spot coating over Envirofoil.
BillerudKorsnäs CrownBoard Prestige paperboard was chosen for its unique combination of formability, strength, and printability, along with its environmental attributes.
Envirofoil's mirror-like finish makes it a perfect choice for conveying the stunning graphics. Transfer metallized Envirofoil is manufactured with less than 1% of the aluminum of traditional foil laminates, reuses the film carrier multiple times, and is recyclable as paper – as certified by numerous U.S. and European laboratories.
The overall DiamondTouch soft touch coating adds an appealing tactile quality that promotes consumer interaction. The UV gloss spot coating on the rear panel provides a striking contrast to the overall matte finish surrounding it.
Multi-level embossed accents add dimension and complement the design of the primary container — a bottle gilded in amber bronze and inspired by Eilish's favorite areas on the human body: the collarbone, neck, and back.
Diamond earned the Power of Print 4th Runner-Up Award and Franklin Award for Excellence in the “Printer’s Self Promotion” and “Calendars” categories, respectively, for its 2022 corporate calendar.
Diamond's 2022 calendar celebrates the company's sustainability and conservation efforts through its partnership with the Seneca Park Zoo in Rochester, NY. Diamond has a long-standing relationship with the zoo and proudly supports the organization through donations, participation in their Environmental Innovation Awards, and annual Earth Day events.
The header features Roycroft Renaissance Master Artisan Laura Wilder’s “Animals of the Savanna” print commissioned by the Seneca Park Zoo. It commemorates the Animals of the Savanna Exhibit expansion, which features Masai giraffes, zebras, ostriches, a southern white rhino, and over a dozen other species.
The calendars were converted utilizing Clearwater ReMagine 30% PCW paperboard, cold foiled, and offset printed with four color process inks, in-line with UV matte, aqueous, and soft touch coatings.
Tightly-registered coatings were used to enhance the design and highlight the individual calendar components, including UV matte coating on the trees, grass, and animals, and aqueous coating on the sky and backgrounds. Soft touch coating adds a tactile effect to the giraffe and zebra. Cold foil was used on the Diamond text.
Multi-level embossing lends distinction and depth to the design. Many of the header components were embossed, including the iron gates, trees, animals, and text. Subtle debossing frames the entire calendar. Select backers components (including the lion, rhino, elephants, and Seneca Park Zoo text) were also embossed to add more depth and realism.
The calendar pages were converted utilizing Domtar Cougar Natural Smooth 80# Text paper and offset printed with four color process inks and UV matte coating. The watermarks continue the image printed on each of the three panels underneath. The unique finish and subtle colors beautifully complement the design concept.
The recyclable shipper was converted utilizing Clearwater Candesce SBS paperboard laminated to E-flute corrugated fiberboard, and offset printed with four color process inks, in-line with and aqueous gloss coating. It is artfully decorated with the custom giraffe pattern from Laura Wilder's “Animals of the Savanna” print.
Diamond won a Franklin Award for Excellence in the “Packaging - Cartonboard” category for Interparfums' Oscar de la Renta Alibi packaging.
The folding cartons were converted utilizing Clearwater Candesce SBS paperboard, cold foiled, and offset printed with custom gold and process black inks, in-line with UV gloss coating, and aqueous matte coating. Overprinting transparent gold ink over foil creates shimmering metallic effects.
The graphic design incorporates an overall embossed leather pattern with exquisite stitching detail inspired by the fashion brand’s Alibi handbag with its signature lock clasp. The debossed Oscar de la Renta logo framed by an embossed white block on the front panel adds dimension and contributes to a unique visual and tactile presentation.
The combination of colors and textures beautifully complements the design of the primary container – a thick-walled flacon with clean structural lines highlighting the fragrance within, topped with a gold-colored cap.
All of Diamond’s entries were designed utilizing recyclable paperboards and manufactured using 100% clean, renewable wind energy, in a Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWL) and Carbon Neutral (Scope 1 and Scope 2) facility.
