Diamond Packaging Wins Five Packaging Awards
ROCHESTER, NY—November 14, 2013—Diamond Packaging won five awards, including Folding Carton of the Year, in the 70th Annual North American Paperboard Packaging Competition, the industry’s premier showcase for all that is new and outstanding in paperboard packaging design and technology. Awards were presented last month at the PPC Fall Meeting Leadership Conference in Dallas, TX.
The competition, sponsored by the Paperboard Packaging Council (PPC) and judged by a jury of packaging professionals, industry experts, professors and magazine publishers, is a celebration of the industry and its creative potential. It is also an affirmation of paperboard as the clear and intelligent choice for packaging in today’s eco-conscious world.
Diamond won the Folding Carton of the Year Award for Elizabeth Arden’s Limited Edition Sunflowers packaging. The overall presentation imparts unusual depth and distinction through creative design, material selection, UV matte and gloss spot coating, embossing and debossing.
The carton was converted utilizing Neenah Paper Royal Sundance Ultra White Felt textured paperboard and offset printed with three PMS colors and dense black inks, in-line with UV matte and UV gloss spot coating.
UV matte coating contributes to the natural aesthetic of the Sunflowers carton and provides a striking contrast to the UV gloss spot coating used on the front panel text and sunflower graphic.
The graphics were enhanced with embossed sunflower petals on the front and rear panels, and debossed text on the side panels, contributing to a unique visual and tactile presentation that stands out in the crowded retail environment.
Diamond won a Gold Award for the L'Oreal Paris RevitaLift Triple Power Moisturizer carton.
The carton was converted utilizing Iggesund Invercote G premium paperboard and offset printed with four color process, two PMS colors, opaque white and transparent gold metallic inks, in-line with UV matte and UV gloss spot coating.
Foil stamping with matte coating enhances the front, side, and top panels. A secondary gloss foil stamp on the front and side panels provides a striking contrast to the matte finish surrounding it. Decorative embossing enhances the L'Oreal logo on the front and top panels.
The specially-designed integrated insert provides protection for the primary container and prominently displays the product through the rigid window.
Diamond also won a Gold Award for its three-month corporate calendar, a long-standing company tradition and popular promotional item given to customers and suppliers. The 2013 carousel-themed calendar illustrates many of Diamond's capabilities, including creative design, Liquid Metal brilliant metallic UV specialty coating, UV gloss spot coating, multi-level embossing and intricate die cutting.
The header depicts the nationally-renowned carousel at historic Seabreeze Amusement Park in Rochester, NY. The carousel was built in the Philadelphia Toboggan Company tradition, featuring hand-carved horses and chariots that have created lasting memories for generations of families.
Multi-level embossing creates a dramatic sense of texture and depth while a decorative die cut pattern conveys the energy and movement of the carousel.
The graphics were enhanced with four color process inks, UV matte coating, UV gloss spot coating (carousel, horses, poles, paisley accents) and Liquid Metal silver metallic specialty UV coating.
Diamond won an Excellence Award for Elizabeth Arden’s White Diamonds Gift Box. Diamond utilized its proprietary QuikSet structure for the gift sets, which were produced for Mother’s Day 2013 and designed taking inspiration from Elizabeth Taylor’s personal jewelry collection.
The QuikSet design consists of a reinforced base and lid that provides the look, feel, and finished edges of a rigid setup box. It features direct application of graphics, flat shipping and storage, easy set-up and unlimited decorative options.
The carton features metallized polyester board and intricate embossing accents that combine to create a strikingly singular and beautifully-decorated presentation. Exquisite dome-embossed round, marquis and emerald diamonds add to the beauty and reinforce the White Diamonds brand.
Diamond won an Innovation Excellence Award for L’Oreal’s Biolage Advanced Try Me Kits. The auto bottom standable pillow pack design beckons from the shelf as a distinctive alternative to the competition. The curvilinear structure is self-supporting and features tuck closures and a curved window. The top inside closure doubles as a perforated coupon for the customer’s next Biolage Advanced purchase.
