Curtis Packaging Honored for Clean Energy Leadership
NEWTOWN, Conn.—The Connecticut Clean Energy Fund has named Curtis Packaging a 2008 recipient of the Connecticut Clean Energy Communities Award, which recognizes the company’s commitment to clean, renewable energy and its leadership role in Newtown’s Clean Energy Community campaign. Curtis’s commitment to renewable energy through the CTCleanEnergyOptions™ Program has qualified Newtown for a free solar energy system from the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund.
As part of its commitment, Curtis Packaging has purchased enough clean, renewable energy to account for 100 percent of their electricity needs, ranking them among the leaders in the printing and packaging industry, according to the company. The estimated environmental benefits of their renewable energy purchase are equivalent to not consuming 400,000 gallons of gasoline or offsetting the electricity use of 466 homes for one year.
“We thank the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund for recognizing our commitment with our environment and our community” said Don Droppo, Jr., senior vice president of sales and marketing. “It is exciting to be part of an effort that delivers the benefits of clean energy to community where we live and work.”
According to the company, Curtis Packaging is the first printing and packaging company in North America to be 100 percent carbon neutral, use 100 percent renewable energy and to be FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified.
