Comexi's Slitting Business Boosts Sales Figure by More than 50% in Three Years
Comexi, a specialist in solutions for the flexible packaging industry, has registered in the last three years an increase of more than 50% of sales in its Slitting Business Unit. Specifically during 2017, Comexi’s slitting line has recorded a remarkable growth in its turnover, expanding its presence in strategic markets such as the United States of America and the Middle East.
These historical results are related in part to the company's commitment to innovation and its development of slitting equipment that offers high added value solutions such as laser technology or automation systems. “Our solutions are widely recognized in the current market.” says Comexi Slitting Brand Manager, Albert Torrent, who, at the same time, adds that the results obtained during these past three years have “exceed all expectations and forecasts."
Specifically, its laser technology allows converters to differentiate themselves from the competition quickly and easily by providing a wide gamma of applications such as easy open, windows, micro-perforations or code insertion. In this sense, the group has been expanding its laser system offering new options of 40, 100 or 300 watts. “At the same time, our automation systems allow converters to increase their productivity exponentially. We are detecting that customers are increasingly interested in these equipment and, therefore, the market is moving towards this direction,” says Torrent.
Moreover, Comexi's slitting brand manager points out some of the main trends that have marked the slitting sector and the flexible packaging industry in recent years — trends that Comexi has been able to respond to efficiently, thus enhancing the group's growth. “Currently, runs are becoming shorter and the explosion of new market niches has led to the appearance of personalized and differentiated products: containers that extend shelf-life, which are more sustainable, ecological, easy to use and formed by more complex laminated structures,” he explains. Therefore, as he adds, frequently converters bet on “high quality equipment that provides the highest productivity and the ability to respond quickly to new market needs."
Wide Range of Solutions
All this, together with the change in terms of union and merger of companies makes brand owners bet on machines like the Comexi S1 DT that can work with “higher tensions, offers more automation, turrets, great ergonomics and maximum efficiency,” comments Torrent. “Converters demand machinery that can operate with many jobs and, above all, offer the shortest changeover and downtimes.”
Nowadays, this Business Unit provides a wide range of highly technological solutions and is led by Enric Carrera, its director since 2017. During last year, the group launched its latest development in this field: the Comexi S1 MS, designed for rigid or semi-rigid materials - non- deformable - and with large output reels. This machine can be useful for a wide variety of markets and applications such as stand-up pouches, to work with trilaminates for the coffee sector, for extrusion or paper market. These are some examples of companies that need to manage large diameters at maximum speed in the rewind area.
Following the strategy of being the main global supplier for the flexible packaging industry, the group also provides the most modern and efficient slitting and rewinding systems such as Comexi S1 DS, Comexi S2 DT or Comexi S-Turret, that allows to work with great tensions.
In this line, facing the future, the company expects to grow as it has been in recent years. For this reason, it will continue betting on cutting-edge technologies, expanding its product portfolio with new slitting, laser and automation solutions and reinforcing its presence in Asia and Europe.
