Cold Vodka=Cool Graphics
While the image of a polar bear perched atop a glacier immediately conjures up a cold connotation, this label printed by ASL Print FX for Polar Ice 90 Degrees North vodka goes the extra mile to deliver its frigid message.
Through the use of thermochromic ink, consumers get an added surprise if they choose to stick their vodka bottle in the freezer. The label tells consumers to “Freeze to Polarize,” so the judging panel during last year’s packagePRINTING Excellence Awards decided to find out what exactly that meant.
When the label was pressed against a cold surface, the white ink immediately transformed to a deep shade of blue, impressing the judges with its vibrancy and ability to differentiate itself from the competition.
“The thermochromic ink was a vibrant blue when in contact with a cold surface,” one of the judges said. “It was stunning to see.”

The impressive printing and creative ink usage earned this label first place in the Wine and Beer Labels: Flexo (Line and Screen) category.
