Colbert Packaging Celebrates 50 Years
CHICAGO—Colbert Packaging Corp., a manufacturer of folding cartons, rigid paper boxes, and paperboard specialty products, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
In 1959, Charles “Bud” Colbert purchased Kroeck Paper Box, a rigid setup box company founded in 1892. He changed the name to Colbert Packaging and set out on a mission to offer one of the industry’s most diverse packaging portfolios. This meant reaching beyond the rigid paper box market and launching a folding carton operation. Today, the company continues to diversify its packaging line with paperboard specialty products, flexographic packaging, tamper-proof blister packaging, pressure-sensitive labels, and a growing line of pharmaceutical packaging solutions. In recent months, Colbert Packaging has introduced three new patient compliance packages into the market, and several more are scheduled for release this year.
“As we look behind us in our milestone year, we can be proud of our achievements, among them the fact that we remain an independent and family-owned business in an industry that has seen a lot of consolidation,” said Jim Hamilton, president of Colbert Packaging. “But even as we celebrate our successes from the last half-century, we are focused on looking ahead to our future and the future of packaging. The industry is changing in line with the needs of retailers and manufacturers, and we intend to maintain our position as a leader in specialty packaging solutions while diversifying our entire portfolio. In this way, Bud Colbert’s legacy lives on.”
“In many ways, it’s the people who tie the history and the future of Colbert Packaging together,” said Hamilton. “We employ some of the best minds in the industry, a team that continues to unearth ways to meet evolving packaging needs. The ability to think outside the traditional rigid setup box was at the heart of Colbert 50 years ago, and that spirit is still very much alive in our corporate culture today. Our innovation and flexibility enable us to adapt to the changing market and meet our customers’ needs for sustainability, compliance, security and more.”
