Cadmus Whitehall Group Installs First North American Heidelberg XL-105 UV
CHARLOTTE, N.C.—Cadmus Whitehall Group, a Cenveo company, recently announced the installation of a Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 105 UV at its Charlotte manufacturing facility. The new press is reported to be the first UV version of the Heidelberg 105 series to be placed in North America and only the second in the world.
“We’ve seen tremendous productivity gains from our previous XL-105 installation,” said Jerry Lux, president of Cadmus Whitehall Group. “This technology will be two to three times more productive than the 10-year old Heidelberg UV press it replaced. As market demand for plastics, foils, and UV products continues to grow, we’re poised to respond.”
Advantages offered by the press include premium gloss effects; unusual printing stocks such as laminated materials, films, and metallic surfaces; and fast postpress. The expected productivity gains allowed Cadmus to replace two presses with the single XL-105 and still provided additional capacity.
“The North American retail market remains extremely competitive,” added Lux. “Those packaging companies who make investments in technology that will cost effectively provide marketers with the tools to differentiate their products at the point of sale will be the winners. Packaging companies unwilling or unable to make that investment will continue to lag.”
“This capital investment is another indication of our commitment to expanding our packaging footprint,” said Tom Oliva, president of Cenveo. “This technology will help our customers set themselves apart from their competitors and enable us to provide them with an extended range of services.”
