Bobst Sells 100th Titan SR8
BEDFORD, U.K.—Bobst Group (Business Area Flexible Materials) sold its 100th Titan SR8 cantilever slitter/rewinder to SAREBO BV, located in Son, about 100 km southeast of Amsterdam. The machine will be installed and commissioned in February 2007.
The Titan SR8 has been a huge success for Bobst Group since its launch at Drupa 2004 in Germany. This success has been on a global basis with installations in many countries as far apart as New Zealand and South Africa and from the USA to Russia, India and China.
The Titan SR8 has gained worldwide acceptance as an advanced, modular, high-performance, twin-shafted cantilever slitter/rewinder—not only by large, multi-national manufacturers of packaging and other flexible materials, but also by smaller players in the global converting industry. SAREBO is typical of such a small converting operation (total 5 personnel) but nevertheless, it was vitally important to its business that it invested in the right kind of equipment for efficient and productive slitting and rewinding.
SAREBO specialises in the supply of a diverse range of polypropylene and laminated foils and wraps for producers of food products. The range of materials varies from single layer to laminates and from 15µ and 400µ. The company is recognized internationally for the VersFlex (FreshFlex) product—a foil which secures optimum freshness of food products.
“The choice of the Titan SR8 slitter/rewinder was easy,” explained Henk Bos, owner of SAREBO. “I have many years experience in converting flexible materials and I have seen Titan machines in operation before. The SR8 will be a perfect fit not only to increase our slitting capacity and flexibility, but also to maintain the high-quality processing we require for our wide range of flexible packaging materials. This is important for improved productivity to meet our customers’ requirements of more shorter runs and quicker deliveries,” he confirmed.
The 1650 mm wide SR8 at SAREBO will feature a free standing unwind, vacuum splice table, manual positioning of razor knives, laser core positioning, and edge trim extraction systems.
The Titan SR8 has been conceived in a modular format to facilitate future machine enhancements and upgrades to meet the demands of increasing production requirements. This concept has also enabled the machine to remain competitively priced, but at the same time provides a higher level of technology, with improved web guidance and web-handling capabilities for a broader range of sensitive, flexible materials.
Running speeds of up to 700 m/min. (2,300 ft/min.) are now achievable for web widths of 1050–1350 mm (41-53 in.), with 600 m/min. for wider widths up to 1850 mm (72 in), depending on materials processed. The Titan SR8 offers three web path configurations to suit converters’ specific requirements and slitting applications, together with a comprehensive list of both standard and optional features.
