Bioelements Group, a sustainable packaging company in Latin America and the United States, announced the appointment of Irene Teruel to the position of Head of Growth and Business Development for the U.S. market. Teruel brings over 10 years of business development, strategic alliance building, legal and executive leadership to the newly created position.
“We are very excited about Irene’s role for Bioelements USA and are eager to see what impact she will have as we gain greater traction in the U.S. market,” said Ignacio Parada, CEO and Founder of Bioelements. “She has a tremendous amount of experience in business development and executive leadership that will help lead us to success in the U.S. market.”
Based in Santiago, Chile, with a presence in Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and the United States, Bioelements is a leading developer and provider of different biobased, biodegradable and compostable packaging solutions that are used by some of the world’s biggest and most well-known brands, including Adidas, Chile-Peru, Australis Seafoods, Justo, Privalia, Walmart Mexico, among others. Bioelements was recognized by the Financial Times as One of the Americas’ Fasting Growing Companies in 2024, a list of the Top 500 companies in the Americas that have achieved the highest percentage growth in revenues between 2019 and 2022. The annual high-profile list compiled by Statista and Financial Times is a visible and public acknowledgement of fast-growing companies in the Americas.
“I am tremendously excited about this opportunity with Bioelements,” said Teruel, who is based in New York. “Biodegradable packaging is gaining traction in markets around the globe and the United States is no exception. We look for incredibly good things to happen here as we make our presence known more and businesses in the United States better understand the highly effective biodegradable packaging technology we have to offer.”
Prior to joining Bioelements, Teruel was the Global Head of Strategic Partnerships with Nowports, a comprehensive international logistics service for foreign trade operations where she was responsible for evaluating business opportunities to establish platform partnerships that enhance supply chain solutions, including sustainability. She spent nearly two years as Chief of Staff before Nowports and six years as an M&A and Corporate lawyer with Gómez-Acebo & Pombo, an international law firm with a presence in New York and Madrid. Additionally, she has spent the last two years actively involved in WhE Women Executives Association and WLW Women in a Legal World. She holds a Bachelor of Law (LLB) from ICADE Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICADE) and a Bachelor of Political Science from the University of Southampton (UK). She has completed various executive programs such as “Innovation & Growth” at Stanford University and “Scaling Entrepreneurial Ventures” at Harvard Business School. This year, she has been recognized as one of the Top 100 Women Leaders in Spain in the International category, which is an incredible milestone for her at 32 years old. She was the youngest recipient of this award.
“We anticipate great things to happen in the U.S. market as we offer industry leading biodegradable packing solutions to retail and other consumer brands,” Parada said. “We are using science and technology to deliver biodegradable packaging solutions that meet the sustainable challenges of brands to help them achieve their business goals while doing good things for the Earth. We are excited about how Irene can help us achieve our goals in the U.S. market.”
