Beyer Graphics Adds Bobst Folder/Gluer

COMMACK, N.Y.—Beyer Graphics, a Long Island, New York folding carton converter, recently upgraded its capabilities with the addition of a Bobst EXPERTFOLD 110-A2 CS folder/gluer. Specializing in pharmaceutical and consumer goods packaging, Beyer Graphics is approaching its fourth decade after starting out as a local commercial printer in the early 1980s.

Dan Beyer reports that the EXPERTFOLD is the company’s fourth Bobst folder/gluer. According to Beyer, “We’re fortunate enough to have grown our business over the past year, so to better meet the demand and serve our clients we needed the increased capacity.”

In addition to increasing production throughput by running product at speeds up to 1,476 feet per minute, the EXPERTFOLD brings additional versatility to Beyer's finishing department. The “A2” configuration of the new folder/gluer gives Beyer the capability to fold over 3,000 different box styles including a wide range of straight line, crash-lock, and others. The ability to fold materials ranging from carton board (up to 164 lbs/msf) and N, F, and E micro-flute corrugated board allows Beyer to offer its customers an expansive range of manufacturing solutions.

The EXPERTFOLD is equipped with the latest generation computer control and setup system, the Bobst C.U.B.E. 3. The system’s user friendly interface simplifies setup and adjustments and allows job data to be stored and recalled for reoccurring product runs, all features which add to the efficiency of the folding and gluing operation. The C.U.B.E. 3 also comes with a wireless remote, giving the operator greater mobility around the machine and further enhancing setup and operation efficiency. This high-end folder-gluer also features Bobst ACCUfeed for the precision alignment of blanks upon entry, as well as the patented flipper ejector system for the automated removal of gluing defects even at the machine’s top running speed.

The EXPERTFOLD’s modular design gives Beyer the ability to reconfigure and expand to meet changing markets and customer/consumer demands. “Eventually we’ll be moving into Braille with the addition of an AccuBraille unit directly to the EXPERTFOLD,” says Beyer. “So if we’re going in that direction, we felt the precision alignment the Accufeed provides would not only be important for our current work, but also be essential to future growth.”
