2013 packagePRINTING Excellence Awards
PHILADELPHIA—February 7, 2013—Achievement awards for top-quality printing are something to brag about. Even more than that, they can provide package printers with a great opportunity to market their award-winning capabilities to prospective customers.
There are a number of noteworthy competitions run by various associations including the Flexible Packaging Association (FPA), Flexographic Technical Association (FTA), Paperboard Packaging Council (PPC), Packaging & Label Gravure Association (PLGA), and Tag and Label Manufacturers Institute (whose Label Awards competition feeds into the World Label Association Awards Competition). These competitions represent the best in package printing in each of their respective domains.
packagePRINTING’s Excellence Awards competition, now in its 27th year, is unique in many ways. It not only includes all major packaging materials categories, such as tags and labels, flexible packaging, folding cartons, and corrugated, but also covers the major printing processes including flexo, offset, digital, gravure, screen, and any combination in between. What makes the Excellence Awards competition such a positive program is the recognition that it provides for all the companies and people involved. While the focus is on package printers, the competition provides recognition for suppliers and customers alike.
I’m always especially pleased to hear from previous winners about the satisfaction and pride felt by the operators who work hard to produce the winning entries. Having worked for a good number of years in manufacturing, I have a profound appreciation and respect for the people who work on the floor in manufacturing plants. And I know they love to compete; it brings out the best in them, as competition is meant to do.
The cover story for the August issue of packagePRINTING focuses on the award winners in our contest each year. Gracing last year’s cover as the Best of Show award winner was an offset-printed wine label produced by Ben Franklin Press & Label for Coppola Winery. Previous winners have included folding cartons produced by Hub Folding Box Company, and wine and spirits labels produced by the likes of ASL Print FX and MPI Label Systems.
New this year, the Excellence Awards competition will be coming under the umbrella of the Gold Ink Awards competition produced by packagePRINTING’s sister publication, Printing Impressions. Along with the cover story in the August issue of packagePRINTING, the Best of Show award will be presented at the Gold Ink Awards and Hall of Fame Gala on September 9, 2013 in Chicago during PRINT 2013.
packagePRINTING’s Excellence Awards competition, along with other printing competitions such as those mentioned above, are an excellent way to show off the high-quality work your company does day-in and day-out. They also provide an avenue for you to show your appreciation for your dedicated suppliers, your customers, and your employees. Entries for the Excellence Awards competition are due by June 5, 2013.
