TLMI Environmental Awards Recipients

GLOUCESTER, MA—October 31, 2013—At the Tag and Label Manufacturers Institute's (TLMI) recent annual meeting held in San Antonio, Avery Dennison, based in Mentor, OH, and The Label Printers, based in Aurora, IL, each received TLMI Environmental Leadership Awards. This prestigious award recognizes TLMI member companies that have consistently demonstrated a commitment to progressive environmental practices across a range of areas including solid waste reduction, recycling, waste or energy recovery, the implementation of new ‘clean’ technology and/or processes, and the implementation of an education program.

"This is TLMI’s 11th year in presenting these awards and recognizing leaders in the implementation of environmental awareness and best sustainability practices in our industry," commented Calvin Frost, chair of TLMI's Environmental Committee. "Sustainability is a central issue in our marketplace and I applaud all the companies who submitted award entries for consideration this year. Avery Dennison and The Label Printers have demonstrated ongoing leadership and excellence in environmental stewardship and I congratulate them both.”

The Converter Award for Environmental Leadership was given to The Label Printers, a company that continues to build an environmental culture throughout their entire organization. This is the company’s second year in winning the award and once again demonstrating a reduction in waste and energy consumption year over year. It has also established best practices that demonstrate an ongoing commitment to sustainability. The company’s “Go Green Save Green and Earn Green” program positions it as a true leader in the industry.

The Supplier Award for Environmental Leadership was given to Avery Dennison, a company that has made excellence in environmental stewardship a highest priority throughout their entire supply chain. The company has improved material efficiencies by a laudable 24 percent since 2011 by utilizing Kaizen practices and they have a corporate goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 15 percent by 2015. Avery has also been a leader in responding to the issues of recycling PET products that contain pressure sensitive labels and they have developed a non-PVC product line that contains zero chlorine.

Both The Label Printers and Avery Dennison have achieved TLMI L.I.F.E. (Label Initiative for the Environment) Certification. L.I.F.E. is the only certification program tailored to the narrow web label and packaging industry.
