With an emphasis on leadership and long-standing industry contributions, the TLMI Annual Awards Banquet honored multiple members of the association for their dedication to the industry, support of the environment, and innovation in label printing and converting.
The banquet, which was held on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the conclusion of the TLMI Annual Meeting at the Ritz-Carlton in Amelia Island, Fla., honored the association’s Environmental Leadership Award winners, Supplier of the Year, Converter of the Year, and the tag and label printing Awards Competition.
To the surprise of those in attendance, prior to the reveal of the Environmental Leadership Award winners, TLMI President Dan Muenzer announced that going forward, the awards would be renamed as the Calvin Frost Environmental Leadership Awards. Frost, the founder of Channeled Resources Group, has been a long-time champion of environmental initiatives in the label industry and is among the most enthusiastic contributors to TLMI.
Rose City Label of Portland, Ore., received the Converter Award for Environmental Leadership. According to a release from TLMI, some of Rose City Label’s environmental initiatives are its participation in its community’s plastic wrap program, recycling of its pallets, and use of water-wash flexo plates. The release states Rose City Label also makes use of its local utility’s 100% wind-power generated electricity.
Flexo Concepts, a Plymouth, Mass.-based manufacturer of plastic doctor blades, received the Supplier Award for Environmental Leadership. According to the release from TLMI, Flexo Concepts assisted in the installation of a photo-voltaic system on its roof, which provides all of the energy used by the company, and the other tenants in its building.
“One of the pillars of the TLMI Strategic Plan is sustainability and Rose City Label and Flexo Concepts are two excellent examples of ways that TLMI member companies are practicing admirable environmental stewardship,” Muenzer said in the press release. “It was such a personal honor for me to have Calvin Frost with us at the banquet when we announced this year’s Environmental Award winners, and to be able to introduce him and to convey to attendees why we are naming these awards after such a great man; a person who has dedicated his entire career to making our industry more sustainable. Calvin’s passion and dedication are unmatched and what a thrill to be handing out the first two official Calvin Frost Awards for Environmental Leadership to Rose City Label and Flexo Concepts.”
The Supplier of the Year Award and Converter of the Year Award were presented to Michael Ring and Joel Carmany, respectively. Ring, the VP of digital solutions for Gallus Heidelberg, was recognized for his three decades of service to the industry, along with his time spent on the TLMI Board of Directors and current service as the co-chair of the TLMI Marketing Committee. Carmany, the owner of Consolidated Label, was recognized for his visionary leadership traits that he brings to both his business and TLMI. In addition to growing Consolidated Label into one of the top label printers in North America, he has maintained a desire to share what he has learned throughout his years in business, demonstrating this desire through his service on the TLMI Board of Directors and willingness to host his peers at his facility.
