Flexo Concepts’ Anilox Roll Analysis Service
PLYMOUTH, Mass.—Flexo Concepts has introduced an anilox roll analysis service under the name ReNew™ MicroCheck to help printers measure cell volume and gauge the condition of their rolls without removing them from the press. The rolls can be evaluated for cell plugging and surface wear for relatively little cost and with almost no impact on press uptime.
Unlike disposable volume testing strips which use a calibrated amount of indicator fluid to measure cell volume, the MicroCheck foil impression testing strips are used in the pressroom and sent to Flexo Concepts for analysis. There, they are read using a high-powered cell volumizing and inspection tool.
The service not only provides accurate cell volume and screen count measurements but also assesses the roll for plugging, surface wear and roll damage. Within 24 hours of receiving the strip, Flexo Concepts provides the customer with an electronic report containing the volume readings, volume loss, images of the cells, an interpretation of the readings and a recommendation for restorative action. The recommended course of action can range from manual or deep cleaning to re-engraving to no action required if the roll is found to be in satisfactory condition.
Phil Ryan, who coordinates the service, says, “So far, our customers are finding the MicroCheck Service a convenient way to learn a lot about their rolls without even taking them out of the press.” He reports that the procedure is simple and easy and the service can save printers thousands of dollars in resurfacing costs and downtime. "Oftentimes, printers send a roll to be re-engraved when cleaning is all that’s needed to restore coating quality. The MicroCheck Service takes the guesswork out.”
The kits include a number of testing strips, a plastic dispenser which doubles as an impression tool and a supply of data cards and return envelopes. The strips have no expiration and can be used on an as-needed basis. To learn more about the service, contact Flexo Concepts at 508-830-9506 or visit www.flexoconcepts.com.
