Hammer Expands Into Complex IML-I and Lidding Market
ROCHESTER, NY—September 6, 2012—Hammer Packaging entered the IML-Injection Mold (IML-I) market in the mid-90's as one of the first printers in North America capable of printing sheetfed offset on OPP films. Since then, the company has continued to invest in cutting and printing capabilities that expand its offerings to this market.
The acquisition of an innovative webfed Berhalter diecutter positions Hammer in the complex IML-I and lidding market. This provides Hammer with new capabilities to support IML-I requirements beyond the current counter pressure-cutting systems. It can diecut complex shapes directly from the VSOP or flexo web presses and is a perfect complement to the multiple formats of roll-fed printing.
Hammer has invested in the largest fleet of variable sleeve offset printing (VSOP) presses in North America. The third VSOP from Muller-Martini will be arriving in November 2012. This press offers UV or electron beam (EB) inks with multiple coating options. Most important, it offers combination runs, performance-based ink and coating selections, and no cylinder or plate costs.
The VSOP complements the new (and second) 10-color UV flexo press from Nilpeter installed in May 2012. This option is applicable for small- to mid-range applications with difficult diecuts.
