Helmut Schreiner, executive manager and owner of the Schreiner Group, has been selected as the winner of the R. Stanton Avery Lifetime Achievement Award. The judging panel convened during the recent FINAT Congress in Sicily, selecting Schreiner for his passion for his company, pioneering innovation, input into industry associations, and the training and development of his employees.
UNION CITY, Calif.—Industry veteran Jim Burden has joined flexible packaging company Emerald Packaging Inc. as business strategy director. In this new position he will manage a variety of responsibilities including developing operating metrics, assisting the operations team on LEAN manufacturing initiatives, and collaborating with sales to identify markets for growth.
NORCROSS, Ga.—RockTenn announced changes to its operational organization after the completion of its recent acquisition of Smurfit-Stone Container Corp. Mike Kiepura has been named president, Consumer Packaging, and Jim Porter has been named president, Corrugated Packaging and Recycling.
Cortegra Named Supplier of the Year
FAIRFIELD, N.J.—Cortegra, a cGMP-compliant partner for healthcare packaging solutions, has been recognized as the 2010 Supplier of the Year by Par Pharmaceuticals. Announced during Par Pharmaceuticals' 2nd Annual Alliance for Excellence meeting on June 8, the recognition was presented to Cortegra for outstanding packaging quality, delivery, and service.

Star Packaging, Master Packaging Merge
ATLANTA, Ga.—Master Packaging, located in Tampa, Fla., completed a merger with Star Packaging, based in Atlanta, Ga. The combined entity will now be known as Star Packaging Corp. and will be headquartered in Atlanta, Ga. with operating facilities in both Georgia and Florida. The newly combined company is owned by Azalea Capital, a private investment firm.
"Our combined industry expertise and manufacturing capabilities allow us to proactively grow our business and provide our customers the quality, the innovation, and the speed they seek to bring industry leading products to market," says Fred Crowe, president and CEO of the new company. "The enhanced financial strength that this merger provides will enable a solid foundation for future growth."
cei Acquires Flex Pack Business
WRIGHTSTOWN, Wisc.—cei (Coating Excellence International) announced the purchase of the flexible packaging business of ECP's Brantford, Ontario plant. ECP (Engineered Coated Products) is a division of Inter-Tape Polymer Group (IPG) and supplies advanced coating technologies, with a diverse product portfolio in packaging for both industrial and consumer markets.
