With the quality of labels being paramount to a label converter’s success, one way to achieve consistency is installing inspection cameras on printing presses.
This is exactly what Bradford, U.K.-based label company The Label Makers has done by installing an ABG FleyeVision professional image control system.
"When we initially talked about print inspection, we debated whether to mount the cameras on our printing presses or finishing equipment," says David Webster, managing director of The Label Makers. "We decided to mount on the printing presses to reduce the amount of waste, particularly in costly inks. It means we can print a true representation of the costs for each job.
Staff efficiency is also greatly increased, as the operator is confident that he can turn his back on the print engine to fill in paperwork, knowing that the camera will flag print errors. The operator wouldn't feel confident without it. It's his extra pair of eyes!
Having 100% inspection also represents great added value for our customers. Our customers now have full confidence in the quality of their finished labels."
Lance Shumaker is ABG’s North American VP of sales for web inspection systems. Having worked with camera inspection for many years, he’s no stranger to the benefits of mounting 100% print inspection cameras on printing presses.
"The benefits are numerous and label converters can’t afford not to have a camera on their press," says Schumaker. "One hundred percent print inspection ensures consistent print quality on every job resulting in reduced waste, resources and overall production costs, making customer rejections a thing of the past.
The FleyeVision provides a full production and process control solution for 100% web inspection quality control requirements on presses, digital presses, and rewinder and finishing systems."
