2003 Excellance Awards-Indelible Inland
THE SHEER SIZE and impeccable registration of the Domaine Chandon Brut corrugated preprint entry captured the attention of the 2003 Excellence Awards judges and this year's Best of Show prize.
The package, produced by Inland Paperboard and Packaging, stands 75˝ tall with six panels printed across the web—a difficult undertaking, remarked Cordes Porcher of Smurfit-Stone Container and a 2003 Excellence Awards judge. "The registration across the web is very consistent," Porcher said, "and the size of the repeat is very large. As a result, the job was very difficult."
Excellence Awards judge Roy Webb of Mark Andy added, "Because of the big sheet it was on, because of the register that the job required, and because of the repeat of the job, we thought that maintaining that web was a little more difficult than the other Best of Show challengers."
While size played a main role in Inland's Best of Show victory, the consistency of the images and color from repeat to repeat, as well as the application of a gold strip on the label for accent captured the win. "Overall, it was a well executed print job—exceptionally well done," commented Porcher.
In addition to Best of Show, Inland swept the Corrugated (Preprint)—Flexo (Process) category and took a second place in Corrugated (Preprint)—Flexo (Line & Screen).
This year's runner-ups for the top prize were McDowell Label and Impressions Inc. Both companies placed first in individual categories, along with additional prizes in the same category—McDowell taking second place in Labels—Combo (Process) and Impressions placing third in Folding Cartons—Offset (Process).
